WH2HDK - WinHelp -> HLPDK Conversion Tool
 

The WH2HDK tools is a conversion program from WinHelp sources (RTF + HPJ) to
HLPDK.

With WH2HDK you can save your investment in Windows Help Databases you created,
when you need to port them to other platforms, such as OS/2, World Wide Web,
Dos, DESQview/X and more.

Now you can create your Help Databases in your favourite WinHelp Authoring
tool, and still benefit from HLPDK cross-platform portability, and enhanced
navigation and code generation tools.

System Requirements
 

In order to use the WH2HDK conversion tool you will need :

- This Package.
- The RTF, BMP and HPJ files for your Windows Help Database Sources.
- The Help Development Kit Sound & Vision Edition V11.5 or later.
- A PC running Dos, dpmi or Windows.
- Optional - Additional tools for your requested target. (Please consult the
  HLPDK documentation).


Installing the WH2HDK Conversion Tool
 

To Install the DOS program(s), copy the contents of this package to a directory
of your choice.

To install the Windows System (Available in the Registered version Only), Open
the Windows Program Manager, Choose File|Run, and execute the INSTALL.EXE
program from the drive/directory (Usually A:) the diskette is in.

The WH2HDK system is NOT Free!, Only registered HLPDK users are allowed to
use it. If you find this product valuable, after a reasonable evaluation
period, please register it and HLPDK. 

By Registaring you will receive the latest HLPDK system, that include protected 
mode compilers and engines, and the latest WH2HDK system, with a protected
mode WH2HDKX program!, Also included are the Windows hosted help compiler and
Conversion Tool, and an OS/2 hosted help compiler.

OPERATION
 

In order to use WH2HDK do the following :

1. Execute WH2HDK on your WinHelp's HPJ Source, using :
   WH2HDK myhelp.HPJ
 * This step is very slow, WH2HDK tries to build a correct database from your
   WinHelp database, retaining the topic and link structure.

2. Optional - Edit the output myhelp.HDF to add/enhance features, according to
   the HLPDK language syntax.

3. Compile the HDF source to the target you are interested in. e.g. :
   HELPC /OS2 myhelp
   Will create the source IPF that is needed by the OS/2 IPFC compiler.

4. Optional - If required, use the additional tools of the target you chose in
   order to create the final hypertext database. Please consult the HLPDK
   Quick Reference section in HLPDK.DOC for more information.


HLPDK - The Help Development Kit
 

The Help Development Kit is the hypertext package that is needed in order
to compile and use the output of the WH2HDK system.

HLPDK includes a help compiler that accepts sources in the .HDF 
(HLPDK Help Definition Format), and creates help databases to the HLPDK 
help engines, or sources to other help engine targets, such as Windows
winHelp, OS/2 IPF, DESQVIEW/X help system, Borland's TVHC and THELP,

Turbo Power's PopHelp, Microsoft's QuickHelp, Microsoft Multimedia Viewer,
World Wide Web HTML and can even create text documents and word processors 
documents. (This document was created using HLPDK). 

The HLPDK system includes 2 Royalty Free Help Engines, that can be
distributed free with help databases that were created by the help compiler.

HLPDK suports the following features :

Topics, PopUps, Links, Keywords, Text Formats, Navigational and
Structural facilities, Target Code insertion, Multiple module files,
Automatic Pascal/C/C++ reference generation, Exception handling,
Multiple file target databases, Graphics, Sound, Groups, Application
Launch, Automatic exports creation, User defined link templates,
trigger actions and more.

Programmers that want the help engine's sources, can purchase it and modify
it to their specific needs.

The HLPDK package is a shareware product, distributed by HyperAct Inc.
