                      Thelp for OS/2
A text mode OS/2 inf and hlp view, convert and search program.
A help system for tshell users.
  =================================================================

 Overview.

Thelp is an OS/2 text mode program. With Thelp you can search, view and
convert inf and hlp files to text. The Thelp package includes a replacement
file for HELP.CMD which will call Thelp.exe (instead of View.exe) with OS/2's
native syntax for calling help. Also included is a file which can replace
View.exe so that 4OS/2 can use Thelp as its help viewer.

 Getting Started.

Place the file thelp.exe in a convenient directory, or in X:\OS2 (where X: is
the drive where OS/2 is installed). This is where OS/2's 'view.exe' and
'HELP.CMD' are usually found. Thelp will not run from non writeable media, ie
a write protected floppy (or a cdrom).

 Usage.

If the directory Thelp.exe is in is not on the path, make that directory the
current directory. Type 'Thelp' at the OS/2 prompt. Thelp takes arguments as
  follows:
  'thelp [filename] [searchtext]'
Thelp will search the inf or hlp file 'filename' for the text 'searchtext'.
The default file to open if none is specified is 'cmdref.inf'.

Once opened, F1 brings up a screen with all the command keys listed.

 Thelp with Tshell.

OS/2's help system doesn't work with the replacement shell, Tshell.
Included is a replacement for HELP.CMD which calls Thelp instead of
view.exe, but will allow OS/2,to display the sys000? type messages on the
  screen.

Steps to get a functioning help system in Tshell :-
  a) Rename HELP.CMD in X:\OS2 (where X is the drive letter).
  b) Place the files Helpsrt.exe and HELP001.CMD in X:\OS2.
  c) Place Thelp.exe in a directory on the path, or in X:\OS2.
  d) Rename HELP001.CMD to HELP.CMD.

Do NOT remove or rename Helpmsg.exe.

The help system should now work with the same syntax as OS/2 native help
system (within the limitations of Thelp).

 Thelp with 4OS/2.

Thelp can be used as a replacement for 'View.exe' when 4OS/2 is used as the
shell. If View.exe in X:\OS2 is renamed or removed, and View001.exe is placed
in X:\OS2 and renamed View.exe, pressing F1 in 4OS/2 will bring up Thelp
instead of view.exe. Many thanks to Jonathan de Boyne Pollard for this.

Thelp needs to be on the path when used like this with 4OS/2 and Help.cmd

This is the second wide beta release of Thelp. (version beta 18)
