---------- What is Red Light [groomed.win98] ----------

URL: http://redlight.wox.org

Red Light is a free Hotline client & server
package.

To run Red Light, first you need Java. The
"Java" folder contains Java installers for
Windows and Linux (MacOS X has Java built-in).

Or get Java from Sun. They have more bandwidth:

  http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre/

Next you get the most recent .jar file from the
"Download Red Light" folder.

You can now run the client by doing:

  Windows: doubleclick the .jar file
  MacOS X: $ java -Dswing.defaultlaf=javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel -jar <jarfile>
  Linux : $ java -jar <jarfile>

Or run the server by doing (this is actually
the same for all platforms):

  $ java -classpath <jarfile> redlight.server.Main

When you have the client running, put a nice
"hotline.dat" icon file (not the one on this
server) into your .redlight directory, and
you'll have icons the next time you start the
client.

The Red Light client used to be called Tube,
which was the partial rewrite of an AWT based
client called Fancy, which was itself based
upon a package called wasbeer.hotline.*. I
suppose it'll all make sense some day.

Anyway the new, new, new plan is to release
1.0 before the end of 2001.
